- The Coalition Letter in Opposition to ARFF Standards (below) identifies some of the people and organizations you can thank for shooting down adoption of the national consensus (NFPA 403) ARFF standards at America's airports by the FAA. Coalition Letter in Opposition to ARFF Standards Read the ARFFRWG Final Draft to Update FAR Part 139 to better understand what is needed to update FAR Part 139 airport safety. H.R. 658 has been approved by the House and the Senate and is awaiting a signature from the President. Here is the link to the bill's status.. Congress has accepted the subjective information identified in the ACRP 7 & ACRP 12 reports (see below - Important ARFF Documents) referenced in the coalition letter, as empirical evidence. The AAAE lobbyists and coalition have succeeded at stopping the FAA adoption of NFPA standards to current U.S. certificated airport ARFF response requirements identified in FAR Part 139. Congress has determined it is not necessary to have adequately staffed ARFF vehicles to rescue victims in a timely manner who are incapacitated in an aircraft accident. Unless more ARFF professionals decide to actively get involved in doing whatever they can to make our elected officials aware of the need for additional ARFF resources at airports in order to save lives, the AAAE will continue to lobby Congress that expenses on any additional airport emergency resources is unnecessary and creates a financial hardship. In these times of a tough economy, airports are reducing what they consider unnecessary costs for continued operations. I hope your job will not be at stake. IF YOU WANT CHANGE TO SAVE
LIVES, GET INVOLVED, EMAIL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES!
